As an Indian in India, I cannot do without domestic help. They are easily available and luckily also affordable. We called them bai(sister), kaamwali(worker), aaya(servant), amma/mai(mother), chhotu/munna(small) or simply by their first names. In social circles, we refer to them as maids or euphemistically housekeepers. This blog is a tribute to the tug-of-war in a typical Indian household between the lady of the house and her bai. It is also a tribute to the colorful character of the Indian bai.
